It is not the public we need to satisfy – A Poem

His eyes were bloodshot

What did they see

Certainly not me

Though it was my face they skated

And left cold

He never spoke

His hands wrote on my skin

What of

Certainly not love

Though it could not have been more intimate

I’ll never know

He never spoke

When I reached for you

What did you show

Certainly not hope

Though you gave a great display

I remained alone

We never spoke

When someone has harmed

What does punishing serve

Certainly not the hurt

Though the unaffected will be satisfied

I only choke

We never spoke

    1. That was my ‘little moment’ too – don’t know if you’re the same, but there’s often one phrase or image that makes me think ‘ah, that’s the nugget’ – the stone of the poetic ring. Thank you for your considered feedback – you are nice 🙂

You can tell me anything (yes, even that!)
