Freedom II – A Poem

My only rule is that I shall not be bound by any rules

By custom we paint our houses white

I painted mine black

I have incurred several injuries from low furniture

My friend offered a game of chess

I said no

When asked I explained why

So it is a rule that you do not play, he said

I chose black and moved my knight

Three squares forward and five left

He put my king in his mouth and said

Check mate!

It was not a satisfactory game.

Now my house is painted cream,

A variation on a theme

But I play chess straight

You can tell me anything (yes, even that!)
