Dependency Tango – A Poem

Can you stay in crisis please

While you’re in crisis I can’t be

Because you need me

I will do anything at all

Except ameliorate

Which would give me space

To fall apart

I fear so much more

My own pain than yours

I am fuelled by a need

As I gently nurse

To make sure you hurt

Of course, of course

My lunacy fits yours

It’s what we married for

I have to be sick

To have a legitimate

Excuse not to live

My real genius

Is in believing what will

Keep me mentally ill

We are in this dance

Together you and me

To the music of our maladies

  1. Some gems of truth in this..did you bug my house? I knew I should not be watching that BBC stuff…can you see into my house when I watch Dr Who? Enjoyed! Leo

      1. LOL, fell in love with an addict who is in recovery. Addiction not active, behavior still a huge PITA. Need I say more? One relationship like that is enough to swear one off codependency…

You can tell me anything (yes, even that!)
