Angry Child – A Poem

To My Angry Child

Ten years from today you will understand

What you now waste by burning it away

Then your heart will break

Turning away to save face you push all the same

Far from containing you radiate

Become the puppet of your pain

There is nothing wrong that can be undone

Nor any magical solution

We don’t really solve problems, only live through them

If sorrow becomes rage make it the coal that feeds the flame

Driving the engine of your strength

And you can achieve

Nurse the fury as an alibi

And you become your own enemy

Cut deep into those who would save you

No matter who wields the stick or bitter word

However true or false, kind or cruel their curse

Only we can heal our own hurts
